Freelance Milestone Payment Schedule Calculator
Split one project fee into a deposit and clear progress payments before work begins. A visible schedule helps both sides understand what is due, how much is due and which delivery event triggers the next invoice.
How a milestone schedule works
Start with the full project fee and an upfront deposit. Divide the remaining balance across one to five stages. Give intermediate payments an observable trigger such as client approval, design sign-off or completion of a build phase, and reserve the last payment for final delivery.
Example
For a $6,000 project with a 50% deposit and two remaining milestones, the schedule is $3,000 before work begins, then two $1,500 payments. The intermediate stage can be tied to client approval and the final stage to final delivery.
Why use milestones?
- Reduce the amount of unpaid work in progress.
- Make payment expectations visible before kickoff.
- Connect invoices to observable project progress.
- Avoid relying on one large invoice at the end.
